About My Preschool

Huckleberry Mountain Preschool is place where children are nurtured and inspired during their early childhood education, which centers around creating a warm, rhythmical, and predictable setting where activities such as baking, painting, gardening and handicrafts, can be imitated by the children as they learn about their world.

My facilities are incorporated into a beautiful, quiet, and safe home setting, toys made from natural materials and an outdoor sandbox and garden to tend!

I take great care in getting to know each child and their individual temperament and needs so they can develop to their full potential as they learn and interact with the other children.

Programs

Curriculum

Huckleberry Mountain Preschool offers a full early childhood

Huckleberry Mountain Preschool curriculum for children 2 1/2 years old to 4 years old (completely potty trained).

The curriculum traditionally follows the seasons of the year. Subjects covered every day included Language Arts, Math, Science and Motor Skills.

Activities of the day include circle time, story telling, puppet shows, play-acting, gardening, painting, and drawing, beeswax modeling, simple crafts for celebrating festivals, cooking and baking, play with water and sand, household activities like washing, folding and ironing napkins, sweeping the room and cleaning the toys, washing the dishes after snack time, and sewing.

Toys and Material Children learn through their entire organism. They live and learn through their senses - touch, smell, warmth, and texture, etc.  At Huckleberry Mountain, children can play with home-made and natural toys made of wood, silk, cotton and wool so they connect to the natural world. Toys are open-ended, simple and universal in concept.

Food

The Preschool provides snack and each child brings his/her own lunch.  Snacks are simple and organic - fruit, rice crackers or yogurt with warm herb tea or organic fruit juices for example. They can be adjusted to meet most allergy needs. Children will help in the preparation of their snack on Baking Day.

Outdoor Play and Walks

Children will play outside and explore on our daily walks.

Meet Me

Carmella Dennis was born in the beautiful mountains of Idaho. She remembers herself as a happy child surrounded by the never ending play in the woods with her brother. Her Grandparents lived next door and her parents shop was located in front of her house. She loved baking cookies, stacking wood and playing house at the base of a pine tree, complete with wild flowers on the pine stump table! Her destiny led her to take up educational studies and teaching.

Carmella studied two majors in Early Childhood Education and Art/Advertising and Design. She soon after started her own family, raising and home schooling her own four children on a family mini farm.

Carmella has 21 years of teaching experience - she worked for the Challenger School in Meridian, Idaho as a Preschool  teacher for four year old's as well as helping out with the 2's/3's class.  She also worked as a Preschool teacher in Manassas at the Compass School and a Lead Preschool Teacher at the Goddard School of Woodbridge, Virginia. During a breif stay in Arizona, she was an assistant teacher for handwork at the Desert Marigold Waldorf Kindergarten.

Carmella's heart desire is to have her own Preschool with only three to five children so that she can pour out her attention and love of teaching on her students!  To  her it's not only a career but a passion to enrich children's lives with a love of learning!

In addition to teaching, Carmella owns her own small business making and selling education children's items and gifts made with natural materials. During her time off you will find her outdoors enjoying all it has to offer!
